Een seizoen in de middenmoot heeft zijn eigen eerlijkheid. Alkmaar D1 scoorde evenveel als het weggaf — 43 voor en 43 tegen — en die balans loopt als een rode draad door een competitiejaar met uitschieters in beide richtingen. Zeven zeges, vijf remises en tien nederlagen leveren een stand op die nergens bij in de buurt komt van kop of hekkensluiter. De afsluiting van de reguliere fase verliep moeizaam: twee thuisnederlagen zorgden voor een dipje, maar de ploeg herstelde zich met overtuiging. Eerst een 2-5 overwinning bij DES, daarna een 4-1 thuiszege tegen Houten — en zo gaat Alkmaar met twee zeges op rij de slotcompetitie in. ## Eén wedstrijd nog te gaan De eindfase bestaat nog uit één duel. De titelrace speelt zich elders af — Delta Venlo staat op onbereikbare afstand. Wat rest, is een kans om het seizoen op een goede manier af te sluiten en het doelsaldo in positieve richting te duwen.
